Praying the News, Tuesday, November 4, 2014

Election Day

Today I voted, O God.  I pray that what I did was not complicity in a larger system that cannot contemplate the disparity of incomes between rich and poor, the despoiling of this good earth you have made, and the prospect of never-ending war.  I pray that what I did was to offer a little space for justice to be done.  Do not let my vote, our votes, be the final bell we
clang in the proclamation of democracy and liberty.  Strengthen our resolve to be more fully a democratic nation and the Body of Christ.  Regardless of religion, help us to find a compassionate unity in our diverse manifestations.  Remind us of our connections.  And make our votes the point of departure for struggle.  Bring the soul force of Frederick Douglass, Shirin Ebadi, Samuel Ruiz, Malala, and Mandela to bear.  Bring the soul force to bear.  Amen.
