Awaiting Execution

I cannot imagine what it is like to be innocent, locked up, and awaiting execution.  I would die a thousand deaths.  Yet, day after day, we find out that our prisons are filled with innocent people awaiting execution.  We have made it profitable.  It pays to have a prison in your town.  It's a job creator.  This job creator title is of little use.  It reflects patriarchy, oppression, and death.  How can we get away with that, Giver of Life?  How can we use words so flippantly and blindly?  I am thankful for the grace of these people who are freed from prison.  They seem to have come to terms with it.  I don't know how they are not red with rage.  I pray for their lives as free people.  May they find a smooth and broad place for the rest of their lives.  And may we get out of the prison business.  May it not become so profitable to imprison and execute so we stop ourselves.  Forgive us and redeem us.  Amen.
